School Council Visits the Houses of Parliament

20th March 2019

The School Council had an exciting trip to the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday 19 March which included a private audience with our local MP, Dominic Raab. The students were fascinated to see the banners and flags of the Brexit protests lining the pavement and were full of questions for Mr Raab about his part in the debate. The trip began with a full tour of the Houses of Parliament and highlights included standing inside the House of Lords and watching a television reporter interview Jacob Rees-Mogg in a bustling Central Lobby.  In a workshop on campaigning, the children voted to develop different campaigns to reduce knife crime, using different methods. They decided that social media was the most popular campaigning tool. The day was also an opportunity to enjoy London as they travelled on the train, stopped for a hot chocolate at the Festival Hall and walked along the Embankment and across Westminster Bridge. The School Council were interested to learn about the refurbishment plans for the Houses of Parliament and we all felt very lucky to be able to visit before the renovation.
