The Danes Hill Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) programme aims to deliver a wide range of fun and stimulating pursuits to any child who wishes to take part. It is a purely voluntary programme of activities that has been created in order to offer an opportunity to enjoy and participate in an interest beyond the normal school day.

The ECA programme has been an integral part of the Danes Hill day for many years. It is an important feature of the school, providing pupils with an opportunity to expand their horizons or harness an existing skill or talent.

The Clubs are led by double Olympian, national record holder, Level 4 Athletics Coach and Strength & Conditioning trainer Nick Buckfield. Fun, engaging and totally inclusive, the club brings all the fundamental movements of athletics into vibrant and energising sessions designed to teach your child athletic disciplines in a friendly and exciting environment.

The emphasis of our programme is on preparation of the athlete for long-term development and performance, ensuring they are fully prepared to meet the demands of their sport, aka sport ready.
Develop fundamental movements through fun games and activities such as: Speed & plyometrics, an introduction to strength training and understand the importance of living like an athlete. Plus our unique athlete app, providing additional training programmes, educational blogs and performance monitoring to support their ongoing development.

Head, Maxine Shaw hosts a gardening club during the children’s lunchtime. The school’s kitchen garden is considered a safe space for children to grow, harvest and share fresh produce. Recently extended with a new greenhouse installed; green-fingered pupils are eager to get planting. A hands-on-learning experience where the pupils get their hands dirty and embrace every opportunity, cultivating their inquisitive minds.

Year 2-3: Sprint Martial Arts will be offering its Little Dragons’ programme, which is suited for 4 to 7-year-olds. Students will grade from white to black belt (pre-adults grade) and learn basic Martial Arts and life skills. Your children will be improving their focus, courage, determination and perseverance. The programme will help them to build confidence, improve their fitness and introduce students to Martial Arts.

Year 4-8: Sprint Martial Arts will offer a beginner course in Martial Arts Striking, a form of freestyle kickboxing. It is a graded system that goes from white to black belt. Students will learn techniques from a variety of styles such as Boxing, Karate, Taekwondo and Kung-fu among other disciplines. Students will also learn life skills, the black belt attitude and leadership skills.

LAMDA Examinations – London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art

Exams can be taken in acting, devised performance (improvisation), mime, verse and prose speaking, musical theatre and public speaking. These exams are accredited to the Qualifications Credit Framework giving equivalent points towards GCSE’s, A Levels and UCAS. LAMDA examinations are designed with a range of skills that will benefit children throughout their lives.

Preparation for an examination can unlock the children’s imagination, develop communication skills and build self-confidence and self-esteem.

Fun and games underwater, completing the PADI Bubblemaker and PADI Seal Team experiences. Learning the basics of scuba (safety, buoyancy, fun) through playing games such as egg and spoon, frisbee, toypedos, hula hoops and more. Children must be over 8 years old and able to swim – PADI Regulations.

 

Year 4-8

A six week programme to complete the PADI Open Water Diver referral programme. It comprises self-study in diver’s own time, one “classroom/dry” session to go through the knowledge development and practice kit set up, and five in-water sessions to learn and practice skills. Each week builds on the next so it is crucial that each one is attended. Divers can then either complete their 4 open water dives with us in the UK, or with any PADI dive centre in the world, to earn their PADI Open Water qualification – a globally recognised scuba certification allowing you to dive anywhere in the world, with a buddy, subject to age-related depth restrictions. Children must be 10 years old minimum and able to swim 200m.

We will be carrying out experiments such as protecting an egg when dropped from a height, making a kite that flies and building the tallest tower out of spaghetti and marshmal-lows.
