Junior School

Our Junior School, which comprises years 2 to 5, represents the children’s exciting transition from Pre-prep to Upper School, focusing on increasing their independence and self-confidence. Located in the main building, in the heart of the school, we offer these pupils a secure area where they feel safe and can thrive.

Although our younger pupils receive some specialist teaching, their form teacher delivers much of their curriculum and provides a nurturing and stable atmosphere, which enables the children to adjust to life on the Prep school site. As our pupils transition through our Junior School, an increasing amount of their timetable is taught by subject specialists and the children are able to enjoy all of the facilities that a large and dynamic prep school offers, including science labs, art rooms, design and technology workshops and the performing arts studios.

Our focus through all of our teaching is to foster a stimulating and creative learning environment where children are encouraged to be intellectually curious, well-motivated and responsible. We hope that our pupils will learn to work independently, collaboratively and above all, we aim to instil a passion for learning which they will take with them as they journey into Upper School.

Pupils in our Junior School are cared for by a team of inspirational form teachers, teaching assistants and Heads of Year, all of whom are responsible for monitoring the children’s academic progress and wellbeing. The members of our dedicated Junior School team know all of those in their charge individually and aim to foster an environment where pupils are happy, comfortable and able to grow into confident, kind and well-rounded individuals, who achieve to the best of their respective abilities. For those children needing additional assistance, our LSC department is on hand to provide specialist support tailored to the individual.

Outside of the classroom, we encourage our Junior School pupils to throw themselves into the extensive extra-curricular life of the school. Whether it be on the games field or the stage, in the music or art room, we believe that all of the children should be encouraged to develop their personal talents and to have the courage to try something new.

We are committed to ensuring that our pupils enter Upper School with a confident, well rounded personality and a desire to be the best that they can be in all aspects of school life, as they embark on the next stage of their Danes Hill journey.
