Danes Hill’s U11 football team retained their trophy after securing the Plate after a hard fought victory in the Surrey Prep Schools Football Cup.

Having lost to Cumnor House in the first round of the main competition, Danes Hill dropped down into the plate tournament but, from then on, the boys hardly put a foot wrong. Wins against Chinthurst, St Andrew’s and Hoe Bridge took Danes Hill to the final where they were pitted against a very strong KCS team.

The final certainly lived up to its billing and was full of goalmouth action. The teams went into half-time deadlocked at 1-1 and the excitement only went up from there. Two further goals apiece meant that, as full-time loomed, the score was 3-3 and it was impossible to pick a winner. The Danes Hill players rallied and mustered the energy to take the lead and even score a further goal before the final whistle to win 5-3.

The boys thoroughly deserved their victory, playing some excellent football and showing superb team spirit.
