School Council update

13th August 2018

The new School Council has met three times this term and its work is already having a positive impact on the life of the school.

The representatives, who are elected by their tutor groups, reviewed all the morning snacks and tasted other options suggested by the catering department. They then voted on the choices and the results will influence what is offered.

The Council is a garrulous group of students with strong opinions and this was evident in their first proper debate this week, chaired by the captain, Lucy Dwan. One of the issues was whether boys in Upper and Middle School should be given the choice to wear shorts or trousers during different times of the year.

The Year 8 representatives will next month visit the Houses of Parliament for a workshop on democracy and debating. Years 6 and 7 will have their turn next term.
