Bevendean’s youngsters have taken part in some wonderful festive nativity productions.

Children in Year One led the way with their show called ‘Christmas by Candlelight’. Each class played its part in narrating the classic nativity tale of the birth of the baby Jesus, helping to bring the story to life with some energetic singing.

It was certainly a hard act to follow but children in Transition confronted that challenge head-on with their production titled, ‘Father Christmas has lost his map’, which told the tale of how Saint Nick was helped in his quest to find the map. There was a wide variety of characters with the children playing snowflakes, elves, angels, stars, reindeer, shepherds, sheep, a dog, kings and camels. There was also a Father Christmas, Mary, Joseph and a Donkey. What was perhaps most pleasing to see was the multi-faith aspect of the production,  with some children playing members of the Diwali and Hanukkah families. Every single child took part in the production, dancing and singing lots of Christmassy songs to help Father Christmas find his map.

Last but not least, it was left to the children in Reception to bring the house down with their production called ‘Christmas Counts’, which told the story of how the Roman Emperor, Caesar Augustus, needed to conduct a census of all the people in the town of Bethlehem and how Mary and Joseph travelled to be counted. The nativity was brought to life by the wonderful shepherds and sheep, innkeepers, narrators, kings and camels and angels. Each member of the cast stepped onto stage with wonderful confidence and delivered a flawless performance.

Well done to all of the children and staff who helped to put on the productions. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!
