U11 South Finals Success

12th September 2018

Following the girls excitement and success of Tuesday, the U11 A hockey team travelled back to Woking Hockey Club to compete in the South Finals. Due to their age there isn’t a National competition for this age group so qualifying for this is a fantastic achievement.

In the pool stages the girls dominated five games to win against Highgate 4-0, St Andrew’s Pangbourne 3-2, The Manor 3 -0, Walhampton 2-1 and St Andrew’s Sussex. Their final game was against Christ Church who were on the same points as us. The girls needed to draw or win this match to qualify for the semi-finals. They drew 1-1 which meant that the overall standings would be decided on goal difference. The girls finished second in the pool by one goal!

After a successful morning the girls were confident in their own ability and were excited to play against St George’s. With the game plan in place the next 18 minutes would decide whether they would be competing in the final or 3rd/4th place. The girls played superbly but St George’s scored three well worked goals to be victorious.

In the 3rd/4th play off the girls were drawn against Holy Cross. This was going to be an intense match as there is historic competition between the two teams. Going into half time the match was 0-0 with both teams showing their dominance on the pitch. After some valiant defending the girls were unfortunate to lose 1-0.

They finished 4th overall and this is the first time in 3 years the girls have progressed to this stage of the competition and achieved this accolade. They were ambassadors for the school on the day and the Games Department are incredibly proud!!
