Danes Hill School honoured Remembrance Day by joining the rest of the country in remembering those who have fallen in the war by observing a two-minute silence at 11am on Thursday 11 November.
Pupils attended a poignant Remembrance Day Service last week. Every year the children mark this important day in a different way. In the past they have made poppies and laid them on the village green, written their own assemblies for the rest of the school and this year the children wrote poems to show their respect to those who gave their lives for our country.
On Thursday’s Remembrance Day Service there were two renditions of The Last Post. The first by the school’s talented Head Girl and the second by Mr Roy Falshaw MBE. Mr Falshaw returned to the school, after retiring earlier this year following 34 years of teaching at Danes Hill School, most recently being Director of Music.
Remembrance Day is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. People nationwide remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those that have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.
