Hello Yellow Day

19th January 2022

On Friday 8 October all Danes Hill School pupils took part in Hello Yellow Day. In return for a £2 donation, pupils and teachers donned an item of yellow. The money raised was spilt between Winston’s Wish and Young Minds.

Our pupils joined thousands of other school children in raiding their wardrobes to find an item of yellow clothing to take part in national Hello Yellow Day, in support of Young Minds. There were certainly some very imaginative ideas, one being a yellow rubber duck added as a hair accessory! Throughout the day all year groups took part in activities focussing on wellbeing, kindness and resilience, this included creating their own piece of artwork supporting wellbeing.

By supporting Hello Yellow Day, we highlighted to our pupils that we all struggle how we are feeling sometimes, and it is normal to have ups and downs. This year may have felt a little more down than up to some individuals but is the little things that count such as morning walks and singing in the shower!

The funds raised by Danes Hill School were split between Young Minds and Winston’s Wish. Young Minds is the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people’s mental health. They want to see a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health, and all young people get the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what. Winston’s Wish was the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity and is the schools chosen charity this term. They have been supporting bereaved children since 1992 and continue to lead the way in providing specialist child bereavement support services across the UK.

Rob Andrews, Acting Head said:

“Wellbeing and mental health awareness is central to our pastoral care at Danes Hill. It was fantastic to see our whole school community wholeheartedly embrace Hello Yellow Day. There is one important message for us to remember, it often just takes one little thing to help us have a happier day. It’s the small things that become the big things that make the day so much brighter.”

One Year 2 pupil commented:

“Yellow is such a bright fun colour, now I know why we are wearing yellow today.”
