Bevendean Culture Workshops

23rd November 2021

Reception children celebrated Indian Culture with a variety of classroom activities and an exciting Indian Dance Workshop! In their workshop the children were taught about some of the elements of Indian Culture, such as a Bindi being the third eye, the vivid Indian flag and the meaning of the three colours with the chakra in the centre with its 24 spokes. They heard about some of the important features of Diwali, the festival of light and some of the traditions of this important celebration, this is a topic they have been covering in their classrooms. They have also looked at Rangoli patterns, the story of Rama and Sita and the amazing vivid colours of the culture. One of the children’s parents came in to share some clothing and family celebration stories.

After they looked at some of the cultural aspects, they were each given a traditional scarf to dance in! They were shown some hand gestures, rhythms, and sequences traditional to Indian dance. The children had a wonderful day immersed in culture.
