On Friday 14 May the U11 A team competed in the IFSA South East Qualifiers Football Tournament. The team consisted of L Davatzis, V Davatzis, T Hatcher, A Maclean, S El Bachir, M Cunningham, A Meade, F Ingles and A Lee.
The girls got off to a great start with a 2-0 win against Thomas Battersea, closely followed by another 2-0 win against Ardingly. With another 1-0 win against Great Walstead the girls had made it through to the quarter-finals before they had played their last group game, which they won 3-0 against Crosfields.
In the quarter-finals the girls played Hornsby House. They got off to a slow start and struggled to get into the game as Hornsby were playing with 3 defenders and were a physical side. The girls, re-grouped quickly and scored a well-worked team goal to put them through to the semi-final.
The semi-final was played against Farringtons. They were a well-organised team who did not allow the girls much time on the ball. It was a really evenly matched game with both teams playing attacking football and wanting to win. The game ended as a draw, therefore went to penalties. The girls were nervous but did amazing, thanks to a great save from Lucy and calm finish from Violet, under pressure.
Into the final, the girls played Blackheath Prep. They took the lead early and were controlling the game but unfortunately, a quick, counterattack from Blackheath saw them draw level, forcing the game to penalties.
Once again, the girls were great with solid penalties from Tali, Ashley and Violet along with another fantastic save from Lucy, this meant the girls were crowned ISFA South East Region Winners 2021.
They will now play at National Finals day, held at St Georges Park.
A fantastic effort from all the girls! Well doneand good luck with the finals!
