World Record Holder Polar Traveller Visit

26th November 2020

Danes Hill enjoyed a very exciting visit from a guest speaker, Alex Hibbert a world-record-holding polar traveller! Alex spoke in the virtual morning assembly with the whole school before holding a workshop with each year group in the Ark. Alex has skied further on an unsupported Arctic journey than anyone in history, in July 2008, he completed his 1374 mile, 113 days long haul return crossing of a new ice sheet route along with team-mate George Bullard. Alex is highly active in the polar and cold regions, he has led independent projects every year since 2006 including a high-speed icecap crossing (330 miles in less than 12 days) and on-going Dark Ice Project (North Pole in the winter), and nearly half a year living with the Polar Eskimos. Alex showed the children some incredible photos of his expeditions and answered some fantastic questions from the children about his experiences and plans for the future. Thank you to Alex for an amazing day at Danes Hill!
