Mandarin Lunchtime Club

18th November 2020

This afternoon Mrs Lim held her weekly Mandarin lunchtime clubs with the children throughout the school. The pupils are encouraged to be able to read, write, and converse daily conversation in Mandarin. Additionally, Mrs Lim enjoys sharing the culture and celebrations with the children. In Year 2 the children have started with learning how to introduce themselves, saying the goodbyes, please and thank you, learning numbers, and with that practice questions relating to counting/quantities. They have looked at days of the week and month, writing high-frequency characters and numbers in Chinese characters.

The level of the learning varies between each year group. With the Upper School, the majority of the children are preparing for their senior school or scholar interviews, hence focus more on speaking and listening. During the festive season such as Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and Lantern Festival, the pupils are learning about the tradition of the festivals and the legend stories behind them.
