An Incredible Discovery

4th November 2020

L Boheim recently made an exciting discovery in her car! She bent down to pick up what she thought was a five pence coin, only to find that it was in fact a very old silver coin. L Boheim brought the coin to school and Mr Murdock recognised it as a Roman denarius, produced when Vespasian was emperor (69-79AD). Vespasian was emperor when the Colosseum in Rome was built. The coin is in fantastic condition, considering its impressive age! It is a mystery how it ended up in her families car, but as Cobham was close to the major Roman road between London and Winchester, it is quite possible that it was dropped in the area. Perhaps any budding archaeologists among you could have a dig in your gardens to see what you might find!
