On Saturday the senior rugby 7s team met at Feltonfleet School to take part in the annual festival. A number of strong local teams take part and although the squad had not had much time to train due to bad weather, hopes were high of progressing well.
First up were Aldro School who perhaps posed the biggest threat, having beaten Danes Hill last year in the 13 a side game. The boys were obviously up for the challenge, imposing a heavy press defence which gradually ‘strangled’ Aldro. Once they made a mistake Danes Hill capitalised, gaining possession and scoring some quite brilliant team tries.
After beating Aldro convincingly the team went from strength to strength with other scores as follows:
6-0 Aldro
5-0 Downsend
6-0 Feltonfleet
4-0 Rokeby
6-0 Cranmore
The boys were particularly proud to beat Cranmore in the unofficial final of the day in front of a large crowd as they were the only team also not to have lost. This meant Danes Hill were unbeaten without conceding a single try and although RFU rules do not allow overall winners, Danes Hill were the only unbeaten team, receiving the team of the day award.
