On Friday 27 September, the U13 Hockey Team travelled to Hurstpierpoint for the Regional Round of the IAPS competition. With just 3 teams qualifying for the National Finals, Danes Hill faced 6 tough Group matches before knockouts.
In the group stage, we didnt concede a goal; claiming 5 wins and a draw, finishing second only on goal difference. The team played some fantastic hockey and grew in quality throughout the tournament.
In our quarter-final, we beat Edgeborough School 1-0 in a focused and disciplined performance to set up a semi-final with Ardingly. In a close match, the scores were tied at the end of normal and extra time after our early strike was cancelled out by Ardingly scoring on the counter attack. After the first round of penalties ended up all-square, we unfortunately lost on sudden death penalties.
With no rest at all, we played CLFS straight away in a third place playoff. Knowing that only a win would guarantee a place in the National Finals, the girls played brilliantly, winning 3-0 to claim the bronze medal and qualification for the Finals.
The National Finals will take place at Repton School on 15 November.
Well done Girls!
