After winning the Surrey Competition earlier this month, the U12 Girls Hockey Team travelled to Woking Hockey Club on Tuesday for their Regional Competition.
With 7 tough teams in the group, the girls faced a difficult 6 games in an attempt to qualify for the final four.
A tough opening fixture of the day against St Georges ended in a well-deserved draw before wins against The Abbey (1-0) and Headington (3-0). After dropping two points in a 1-1 draw with Tiffin, the girls responded brilliantly to beat Sir William Borlase 1-0 and St Benedicts 2-1 to secure second place in the group and a place in the final four in the Region.
In the semi-final, a well contested game ended 0-0 at the end of normal time, leading straight to penalty strokes. With both sides level at 2-2, consecutive rounds of sudden death penalties finally handed the victory to Alleyns, winners of Group A, with barely anything to split the two teams.
With the other semi-final also going to penalties, Danes Hill faced a talented Surbiton High team in the 3rd/4th Playoff.
An end-to-end battle saw both teams give their all in a high quality game. A fantastic finish from Danes Hill resulted in a 2-1 win as the girls secured Bronze medals and 3rd place in the South.
Congratulations to all of the girls on a really fantastic season!
