On Friday 16 June the U9A cricket team took part in the inaugural Downsend 6-aside cricket tournament. The tournament was hotly contested by some of the best teams in the area. The U9’s played Cranmore as their first fixture. Despite some mis-fields the team won in the last over by 3 runs. Next was local rivals Parkside who Danes Hill also defeated in the 2nd over winning by 4 runs. The final game in the group stage was hosts Downsend. After a nail biting game, Danes Hill emerged victorious winning in the last over by 1 run. This meant the team progressed through to the semi finals to face Shrewsbury House. Shrewsbury House set an impressive total of 53-1 with the bat. However, again the players showed their depth of talent by rising to this challenge. On the last ball the score was 52-1, James McGeoch hit just shy of the boundary but despite his best efforts he was sadly ran out and the games finished Danes Hill 53-2 vs Shrewsbury House 53-1.
Overall the team claimed 3rd place and enjoyed a great set of fixtures. Well done to all involved.
