U13 National Hockey Finalists

12th September 2018

On Wednesday 8 November, the 1st team travelled to Tonbridge School to compete in the Regional IAPS round with the aspiration of qualifying for the National Finals on Tuesday 14 November at Repton School.

The day started with a match against Beachborough School. This was a fast paced match and the girls won the match 1-0 with the goal coming from Gracie Butler who ran around the defence to score a well-executed individual goal. They then went on to play Feltonfleet. This was a very physical match but the girls triumphed by winning 5 – 1 with two excellent individual goals coming from Sophie Thompson and Zoe Lawrence. The girls were playing brilliantly and with two games to go they were already top of the group. Their next match was against Ardingly College were they won 2-0. The final group match was against Westbourne House who had an outstanding goalkeeper who pulled off the some excellent saves. The final result ended in a 2-1 win against them.

This confirmed that the girls won the group stages and would progress to the qualifying rounds.

The girls were drawn against Highfield School and if they won this match they would qualify for the National Finals. The girls played with confidence and tenacity to win the game 3-0. This result meant that they would be one of six teams to qualify for the finals.

The 1st team finished 4th overall but should be very proud of the way they played. The Games Department are extremely proud of them and wish them all the luck for Tuesday!
