On Tuesday 6 March, the U11A hockey team travelled to Woking Hockey Club to take part in the Surrey Cup Tournament. With their new sub coats, the girls were looking forward to a day of hockey.
The girls started the day with two wins against Esher Church School (2-0) and St Andrews (3-1). With the momentum behind us the girls were fired up to play Holy Cross. This was a very physical and competitive match with both teams displaying their excellent skills. After a number of opportunities that were saved by their goalkeeper the final whistle blew to end the match 0-0. Our next game was against St Teresas which again led to a 0-0 score. The final match in the pool stages was against Feltonfleet. The girls were unlucky to loose 0-2 but this result didnt affect their overall standings.
Having finished second in the pool the girls had one final match to play to determine whether they would qualify for the South Finals.
The girls played superbly against St Thomass and a special mention must go to A OLeary who made some outstanding saves to keep the game at 0-0. Due to the draw the girls were then instructed to do penalty flicks. E Pitts, M Fewings and M Guevara Correa volunteered to take a penalty flick and they should be very proud of themselves for doing this. Again, A O’Leary made two fantastic saves and M Guevara Correa and M Fewings scored two excellent goals to give the girls the win!
They have now qualified for the South Finals on Thursday 8 March. We wish them the best of luck and we are very proud of them.
