The senior girls travelled to Repton School on Monday 13 November, to take part in the IAPS National finals on Tuesday 14 November. After the girls trip to Devon earlier in the term, the team were fully prepared and had experienced an overnight stay before a tournament. After a carbo-loaded dinner and early to bed the girls were ready to tackle the tournament ahead.

Faced with a tough pool the team played some outstanding hockey, gaining confidence from a 3.1 win over Chafyn Grove. The girls then had a set back, losing 2.0 to a strong Greshams team. It was a testament to the team that they kept their heads up, beating Bromsgrove 3.1.

At this point the pool was very tight, with each team changing position after each game. In order to help us make it through to the cup, it was imperative that we increased our goal difference. The team delivered, scoring 4 goals against Wellingborough Prep, in a very accomplished attacking display. The girls then faced Milfield in the final game of their pool. It was an extremely tight game, with both sides playing fantastic hockey. It was a penalty corner goal from Milfield that edged put then in the lead. Danes Hill got through to the cup competition in second place.

The team were drawn against Junior Kings in the quarter final, and after being beaten in the Regional rounds the team had a point to prove. The girls scored some fantastic goals, winning the game 3.2. Danes Hill were then in the semi-finals against St Andrew’s, who had won the Regional tournament. Again, it was another composed display, but particularly nerve racking for the supporters going 3.0 up and finishing the game 3.2. The girls were absolutely ecstatic and fully deserved their place in the final against Milfield.

The game was fast paced and it was end-to-end hockey, with both teams displaying why they deserved to be in this final. The final score was 3.1 to Milfield, but the girls should be extremely proud of their fantastic achievement as they were completely focussed until the final whistle.

We are so proud of the team’s amazing work ethic, attitude and hockey skills. They have been extremely dedicated and thoroughly deserve this fantastic achievement. Well done!
