On Saturday fourteen girls from years 7 & 8 travelled to the home of many inspirational sporting moments, the velodrome at the Olympic Park to take part in the British Indoor Rowing Championships. This is the biggest amateur and professional event in the rowing calendar and a fantastic opportunity for the girls to experience a professional sporting environment.
The girls competed in the 500m race against girls from across the country and they thoroughly enjoyed their entrance, in which they had to run out on to the race floor into a sea of dry ice and flashing lights in front of a sell-out crowd. The team were inspired by the venue and all achieved a personal best, with several girls achieving top 10 positions, which is a fantastic achievement.
The girls were lucky to meet current Olympic rowers and collect their autographs, which we hope will spur them on to compete, and better their times next year. Well done!
