A great tournament weekend for the Middle School girls!
On Saturday the U10 A team travelled to St George’s Junior School. The tournament began with some very frozen pitches. With a doubt over whether the tournament would go ahead, the girls were eager to play. Once the Sun had defrosted the pitch, play got underway. Our first opponents were a very strong St George’s. Play was end to end and the final score was 1-1. A fantastic result! Our next opponents were St Teresa’s the girls won this match 3-0. Finally, they played Downsend. The play between these two teams is always very tight. This match was no exception, after reaching 1-0 down the whole Danes Hill team rallied together and sheer determination led them to score. A final attempt at goal was denied to us leading to a 1-1 draw. The overall result led to Danes Hill being awarded the silver medal. Well done!
The U10 B team travelled to Downsend on Saturday and competed in a tournament against Downsend, St. George’s and Hall Grove. They played some great hockey despite the cold and were unfortunate to lose each game by one or two goals. A good effort was shown by all of the girls and they never gave up!
The U9 A and B team participated in the annual Danes Hill tournament at the weekend. Is was wonderful to see some fantastic hockey on display, particularly for children of such a young age. The A team showed great determination after an extremely close match with the B team to come in second place, behind St George’s and ahead of Hawthorns. The B team, playing against all other A teams were buoyed by a great result against the Danes Hill A’s and demonstrated tenacious defending skills against Hawthorns and St George’s, finishing in 4th place.
