Children in Year 4 have been celebrating Chinese New Year.
The children’s focus has been very much on China during their recent Geography lessons. In support of their studies, they were taught all about the 2017 Chinese New Year, the year of the Rooster. Other years of the Rooster included 1969, 1981, 1993 and 2005, people born in this year are said to be observant, hardworking, resourceful, courageous and talented.
As well as learning about the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac, the children were introduced to some Chinese musical instruments and the Lion Dance. They embraced the Chinese culture by speaking and writing some Mandarin, as well as making Chinese lanterns and New Year cards. No Chinese themed event would be complete without some delicious oriental cuisine and, thanks to the catering staff, the children were treated to a sumptuous Chinese banquet.
Thank you to everyone who made the event so successful.
