Children in Transition had the chance to test their newly acquired knowledge on harvest as they paid a visit to Garsons Farm in Esher.

They had spent the previous week learning about harvest in school and the primary purpose of the Garsons Farm visit was to pick pumpkins! The hosting farmers taught the children all about how pumpkins grow and how, before they turn a beautiful orange colour, they start off life being green! They saw various other fruit and vegetables around the farm, including spinach, sweetcorn and raspberries, and really entered into the harvest spirit.

Having picked their favourite pumpkins, the pupils proudly showed off their choices and compared sizes and weights with each other.

It was a wonderful day and each child was allowed to take their pumpkin home as a memento and, perhaps, as this year’s Halloween centre piece!
