In the spirit of Theresa May, the School Council went ahead with their tour of the Houses of Parliament on March 27 and witnessed our democracy in action.

The students were given a detailed tour of both the Houses of Lords and Commons and followed the footsteps the Queen takes for the State Opening of Parliament. The children learned how laws are made in this country and their journey through Parliament.

The students chose the question of private and state education for their own debate and two teams debated whether there should be a law making education the same for all, regardless of fees. Strong opinions were aired and the speaker, Teddy Hutchings, kept them in order.  The aim of the outing was to enhance the School Council’s role in the school with the students taking greater responsibility for representing the voice of their fellow pupils.
