Danes Hill played host to ten children from the International School in Woking for a day of Art and D&T.

Upon arrival, the visitors were assigned buddies from Danes Hill who would be on hand to show them to their various locations on site. The first activity took place in the clay and kiln room where the group was given a demonstration on how to make a clay relief tile containing a letter. Following the demonstration, the children were tasked with choosing a letter from their name to make their own relief tile.

Work continued on the relief tiles in the afternoon, before which the children were shown how to make pizza dough in food technology, which certainly whetted their appetites before lunch! Once two relief tiles had been created by each child, they were left at Danes Hill to be dried and fired in the kiln. They will be delivered to their proud creators on Danes Hill’s return visit.

The day was brought to a close with the children having a go at making their own pizzas, using a variety of different toppings and completing a box design which was discussed in the earlier session. They were each able to take away their pizzas in a personalised box and were no doubt eager to get home to try them.
