It was a day to savour for Danes Hill hockey as the Senior girls and U10s headed to the Reigate Grammar Hockey Tournament under some glorious autumnal sunshine.

Although the Seniors got off to a sluggish start, losing 3-1 to Downsend, they soon rallied and, after overcoming the Reigate Grammar B team with two fantastic goals, the girls salvaged a hard-earned draw against a very capable St Teresa’s side, which contained several ex Danes Hill players. Credit must go to the goalkeeper and defence for their tireless hunger to keep a clean sheet. The final game saw Danes Hill square up to the host’s A team. The girls saved their best for last and produced a terrific display of attacking, passing hockey to win the game 3-1. This was a very pleasing display by the girls throughout the tournament and earned them a well-deserved second place.

The U10s went one better than their senior counterparts, playing some fantastic hockey and scoring some sensational team goals in the process. They also started slowly with a 0-0 draw against Reigate St Mary’s A team but went on to win all of their other matches to secure first place.

The Games staff are extremely proud of the displays of both teams and were more than happy to extend their congratulations on an excellent day of hockey.
