Annual Danes Hill Hockey Tournament

12th September 2018

The strongest hockey schools in the County were present at school this week for the annual Danes Hill hockey tournament.
Danes Hill was able to field a first and second team in the tournament, which was played in glorious autumnal sunshine. Given the make-up of the teams in the competition, the spectators were certainly expecting some high quality hockey and they were not to be disappointed.
The 2nd team had a very promising day, beating The Hawthorns, drawing with Cranleigh and Edgeborough and narrowly losing to a strong St George’s side. Meanwhile, the 1st team had a somewhat tougher but no less valuable experience, suffering narrow losses to Edgeborough, Feltonfleet and eventual winners St George’s. However, learning from those defeats, they bounced back to beat The Hawthorns comprehensively and could have won a very exciting match against Cranleigh, which eventually ended in a draw.
Both sides showed fantastic progress throughout the course of the tournament and, most excitingly, know that they can still improve significantly. The girls prospects are very good this season and if they continue to show the same admirable attitude in the lead up to the IAPS competition, we have no doubt that they will do very well.
