Every child at Danes Hill is supported by a strong and visible network of staff:
· Form Teachers know each pupil individually and are the first point of contact for parents.
· Heads of Year and Heads of Section oversee the pastoral life of each age group, tracking wellbeing, attendance and behaviour.
· The Deputy Head Pastoral coordinates the school’s pastoral systems and chairs the Pastoral Committee, which meets weekly to review pupils on the Welfare Concern List.
· The Safeguarding and Mental Health Team, including our DSL, Mental Health Lead, School Counsellor, and School Nurse, provide expert guidance and targeted support.
The Mental Health Lead is responsible for triaging SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) support, ensuring that each pupil receives the right help at the right time. This may include counselling, ELSA, Girls on Board sessions, Constructive Support Programmes, guidance from the School Nurse, or other tailored interventions designed to promote emotional literacy, regulation and resilience.
Collaboration with families and external professionals ensures a joined-up approach to care, so that every pupil is known, supported, and encouraged to thrive both personally and academically.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health Support
Wellbeing at Danes Hill goes beyond care — it is actively taught, modelled, and celebrated.
Through PD (Personal Development) sessions, overseen by our Head of PD and Wellbeing, pupils explore topics such as friendship, resilience, digital responsibility and mental health.
When additional support is needed, we offer a range of interventions, including:
- Restorative Conversations – reflection and repair after difficulties.
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Support – targeted sessions for pupils needing additional emotional or therapeutic guidance.
- Time In – a calm space for regulation and reflection.
- Constructive Support Programmes – bespoke plans for pupils requiring ongoing help.
We believe that emotional wellbeing and academic progress are inseparable, and we work closely with parents to ensure that each child feels confident and supported.
