We are delighted to share that Danes Hill has been awarded the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS), a recognition that celebrates our commitment to mental health and wellbeing across our whole school community. This award reflects the quiet, consistent and compassionate work that takes place every day at Danes Hill, affirming that wellbeing is not an add‑on, but is at the heart of everything we do.
This achievement acknowledges the significant progress we have made over the past 18 months and our ongoing commitment to this important work. It recognises that we have:
– A culture where every pupil feels safe, valued and heard — supported by strong pupil voice structures, from School Council to Wellbeing Champions.
– Strong, embedded systems for mental health and wellbeing — including early‑identification processes, nurture groups, Talking Schools and access to health professionals.
– A community built on care, inclusion and belonging — reflected in our vision, values and the warm, nurturing culture described by pupils, parents, staff and governors.
– A clear commitment to staff wellbeing — with coaching, EAP access, wellbeing initiatives, professional development and a culture of genuine collegial support.
The assessor also highlighted how deeply wellbeing is embedded across school life, from thoughtfully designed spaces to strong transition support, restorative behaviour approaches, and the wide range of enrichment opportunities that build confidence and connection. They noted the warmth with which pupils, parents, staff and governors spoke about their experiences, reflecting a community where every individual is known and valued.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and remain committed to continuing this work as a whole school community.
Together, we will continue to ensure that every child feels they belong, every voice is heard, and every member of our community can flourish.
