Pastoral Care

At Danes Hill, pastoral care begins with belonging. We believe that when children feel known, valued and connected, they are free to learn, grow and flourish. Relationships sit at the heart of everything we do between pupils, teachers and parents, creating a community built on trust, kindness and shared purpose. Every child is recognised as an individual with their own strengths and ways of learning, and we work closely across teams to ensure that each pupil is understood and supported. Our inclusive ethos, shaped by a deep respect for difference and diversity, helps every child to find their place and to feel that they truly belong. This sense of belonging defines Danes Hill and underpins our commitment to helping every pupil thrive personally, socially and academically.

‘At the heart of all we do’

Pastoral care lies at the very heart of life at Danes Hill. We believe that happy, confident children learn best, and that every child deserves to feel safe, valued and known. Our approach is restorative and values-led, built on relationships, reflection and responsibility.

Guided by our four school values — Growth, Courage, Respect and Passion — we aim to nurture thoughtful, resilient and kind young people who understand that learning and wellbeing go hand in hand.

My son has been in an environment that is diverse and inclusive and where learning has been well balanced with creative and engaging activities.

Our Approach

At Danes Hill, pastoral care is not a single department — it is a shared commitment woven through every classroom, playground, and conversation. We see behaviour as a form of communication and believe that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow. Through restorative conversations, pupils are supported to reflect on their actions, repair relationships, and re-engage positively with their community.

Our pastoral culture is proactive and relational. We focus on developing emotional literacy, empathy and self-regulation, helping pupils to take increasing responsibility for their own wellbeing and choices.

Meet the Team

Pastoral care is everyone’s responsibility, but it is guided by an experienced team who work closely together to ensure that every child receives the right support at the right time.

A Message from the Deputy Head Pastoral

At Danes Hill, we believe that kindness and connection are the foundation of every child’s success. Our restorative, values-led approach helps pupils grow not just as learners, but as people — reflective, resilient and ready to contribute positively to the world around them.

Every child deserves to feel known, supported and inspired to be their best self — and that is the essence of pastoral care at Danes Hill.

— Deputy Head Pastoral
