School information

Mrs Carolyn Ward, Danes Hill Registrar

As School Registrar I am the first point of contact for prospective Danes Hill parents.

No two schools and no two children are alike, and it is an old but true adage that the school must be right for the child. The choice of the most appropriate school can come to seem an impossibly difficult decision to make, but in my experience parents should trust their own judgement: you really do know your own children best!

The Danes Hill admission procedure works as follows:

Initial Enquiry
In the first instance parents contact me either by phone or email to make an initial enquiry about the school. At this stage I will take down contact details, arrange to send a hardcopy of our prospectus, and discuss with you exactly what you are seeking for your child or children.

Tour of the School
If you like the look of what we have to offer, the most important thing is for you to visit the school, get a feel for it, and decide whether it is an environment which feels right for your child. Tours generally include a visit to both the Bevendean (Pre-Prep) and Main School sites, followed by an opportunity to meet the Headmaster. Tours generally take place on three mornings each week during term time throughout the year, but if this proves inconvenient we are very happy to arrange a day and time to suit. We recommend that it is best not to be accompanied by your child or children on this initial tour of the school, but you are very welcome to bring your child on a subsequent visit.

Registering Your Child
At the end of the tour I will give you a registration form. Some parents are keen to register there and then, but my advice will always be to go home and think about it first. This is a big decision, and it is very important that you are absolutely sure Danes Hill is the school for you. Once you are decided, the completed registration form should be returned to me together with the registration fee (£100), and, if appropriate, the deposit (£400). You may of course take as long as you need to make this decision, provided that there is no waiting-list, and I am always available by telephone or email to answer any further questions you may have.

After Registration
Once you have registered with us, we will keep in touch with you every step of the way, and our staff ensure that new pupils are made to feel really welcome from day one of their time at the school. Depending on their age, this might include another pupil being allocated as their ’buddy’ to help them find their feet. Our parent body, the FODH, are equally welcoming to new parents and there are plenty of opportunities for new Danes Hill families quickly to feel part of the school community.

I look forward to welcoming you on a visit to the school.
