Welcome from the Chair of FODH

Welcome to the FODH section of the new school website. Here you will find minutes of recent meetings, downloadable issues of our exciting new newsletter THE RAVE, and names and contact details of all the current form reps and position holders.

For those of you who are new to Danes Hill, the FODH – The Friends of Danes Hill – is the parents’ organisation of the school. The FODH has three main purposes:

  • First and foremost, to help with the provision of facilities to enhance the overall education of children at Danes Hill.
  • Secondly, with social events such as the Danes Hill Family Day in September, Firework Night and the Christmas Fayre later in the Autumn Term, and of course the spectacular Summer Ball in July,  it brings together staff, parents and all those associated with the school community.
  • Finally, the FODH aims to support Danes Hill pupils’ charitable fundraising activities.

In addition the FODH is responsible for running the school’s second hand uniform shop – see the ‘Uniform Information’ section of the website.

Members of FODH are all parents or guardians of children attending the school, and each class has one or more nominated representatives. The management of the Friends is co-ordinated by a committee consisting of a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, social secretary, treasurers and Bevendean representative. Regular meetings are held at both Bevendean and the Main School, details of which will be found in the school calendar.

Over the years the FODH has contributed to many major and smaller fundraising projects. These have included:

  • The building of the Ark
  • The swimming pool changing rooms
  • The Main School adventure playground
  • Curtains and sound equipment in the Ark
  • Staging for the choir
  • Digital cameras for Art and DT
  • Rowing machines for the Sports Department
  • The Bevendean pirate ship

In the last school year the FODH contributed a total of £40,861, and a further £8,900 since September 07.

We are always looking for new and innovative ideas, and we always welcome new volunteers – you don’t have to be a Form Rep to get involved!
