Welcome from the Chair of F.O.D.H

Welcome from the Chair of FODH
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you a little insight into our organisation. I am looking forward to an active time as Chairman of FODH - the bar has been set high but, as always, there are many parents keen to help. We are lucky to have such a successful and varied pool of resources in our parents. Get a group of busy mums together and you’d be amazed at the innovative ideas that can come out!
Our primary aim is to provide extra facilities for the children through fund raising and, to this end, we are a registered charity. Over the last few years we have donated over £70,000 to various projects, including the Concept Rowing suite (which become so successful that we gained three gold and three silver medals in Round 2 of the National Schools Indoor Rowing League in 2008 which is a fantastic achievement). The pleasure that the Pirate Ship and garden in the Bevendean playground has given is perhaps harder to measure but made obvious by the smiles.
This year, funding requests have been extended to parents and children, as well as staff. This way we can all have a say in how FODH funds are spent. You’ll need to download the form from this site, or collect one from the Cottage and submit it back to us via the FODH boxes in the Ark or Bevendean foyer. We will canvass opinion from the parents, via the Class Reps and present the successful ones to Mr Murdock for his approval.
Our second role is to bring our families together socially. This is an action-packed term, with our firework extravaganza due on 7th November followed by a very popular Christmas Fayre. The Family Day and Quiz Night will be in the spring term and the year ends with our Summer Ball. FODH Class Representatives are indispensible at these events, coordinating stalls and manpower with the various committees running them.
We work closely with the Charities Committee and the successful Second Hand Uniform Shop, full details of which are available on this site. Our termly newsletter The Rave, which can be downloaded from this webpage, is one of our methods of informing the Danes Hill community of all we are doing and your Class Reps will keep you up-to-date in the meantime. If you want to contact us, email FODH2009@aol.com or put a note in our post boxes in the Ark or the Bevendean foyer.
Our Class Rep meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the new term in the Pavilion at the main school and a smaller, less formal “coffee morning” at Bevendean on the second Wednesday of term. We invite any parents who have some time to spare and plenty of enthusiasm to come to these and help make Danes Hill an enjoyable environment for us all.

STOP PRESS! A brand new marketplace run by the FODH has just gone online. Unlike other online trading sites, we won't have to deal with postage and packaging - if you want to buy or sell something, agree it online and trade face-to-face. It is free to you but FODH keep all the revenue they make from corporate advertising, so it promises to be a big fun-raiser. It is a dedicated site to Danes Hill and is password protected.
