Academic Results

The Class of 2025 celebrated outstanding academic success, with 76% of all grades awarded at A or A* with 99% of all grades at A* to C across all subjects. Students demonstrated their breadth of academic knowledge by achieving an average mark of 74% across all subjects. Results were particularly strong in English, Maths and Science where 100% of pupils attained A–C*. All students completed our new Danes Hill Humanities curriculum (geography, history and theology philosophy and religion), designed to draw together all aspects of the world into one exciting curriculum. Pupils achieved extraordinary success with 94% of all students achieving an A*-B in all three subjects.

Academic excellence is further reflected in the 30 Scholarships and Exhibitions awarded at both 11+ and 13+ levels. The majority of pupils progress from Danes Hill School at the end of Year 8 through Scholarship or Common Entrance examinations. We are proud of our exceptional record in securing entry to pupils’ chosen senior schools, ensuring every child moves on with confidence and success.

Our pupils continue their education at a wide range of leading senior schools, including local co-educational and single-sex day and boarding schools, as well as nationally renowned independent schools further afield. This breadth highlights the strength of preparation at Danes Hill and the bespoke guidance given to every child.

*NEW* Upper School Scholarships

We now offer external (current year 6) students the chance to apply for an Upper School Scholarship.

A range of scholarships are available in the following categories: Academic, Music, Sport, Art, Drama, and Design Technology.

Our Year 7 and 8 scholarship programme provides the perfect springboard for pupils to explore their potential, whilst giving them the time and space to remain young and enjoy their formative years. In a world that often rushes ahead, we nurture each child’s growth at their own pace, allowing them to develop academically, emotionally, and socially without the pressure of early transitions. By focusing on their individual needs and providing a supportive environment, we ensure that students are not only prepared for the future, but also able to savour these critical years before embarking on their senior school journey

Scholars will be supported in several ways to ensure they are able to flourish in their chosen discipline. An annual review with each scholar of their application and commitment will help with planning a support programme to ensure they continue to develop. Being a scholar is not a badge of honour; it is a role that comes with privilege but also responsibility and expectations.

The assessment process for each scholarship is highlighted below.

Academic

Pupils will be asked to sit an English, Maths and reasoning papers and will also take part in a group session where they will complete a problem-solving task. A reference will be sought for external applicants.

Music

Pupils will be invited to perform on one instrument; if a second discipline is offered it will also be considered. Musicality references will be sought, including current levels of performance. The Director of Music will have a short interview with each pupil and ask them about their understanding of the music being performed.

Sport

Pupils applying for a sports scholarship should be able to demonstrate excellent ability in at least two major sports. Pupils will also be asked to take part in an assessment of their fitness and skills.

Art

Pupils will be invited to take part in a day of art. Portfolios will also be considered.

Drama

Pupils will spend half a day in school, working on a mixture of assessments with the Drama department. One of these assessments will include performing a monologue, which the pupils receive in advance of the day to prepare appropriately.

DT

Pupils will be invited to attend a day workshop. Portfolios will also be considered.
