Entry Points

Children are welcome to join Danes Hill School in any year group but the main points of entry are Nursery (rising 3’s), Reception (4+), Year 3 (7+) and Year 7 (11+). As places in every year group are limited early registration is encouraged in order to avoid disappointment. Once you have registered your child our Registrar, Claire Walsh, will be with you every step of the way to guide you through the admissions journey and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Pre-Prep Nursery

Children are welcome to join our Nursery from the academic year in which they turn 3 (starting at age 2). Nursery places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend registering early to secure a spot.

Reception

Many new children join Bevendean Pre-Prep at Reception. There is no assessment for children entering Danes Hill School at this stage, and places are offered in the order registrations are received. We therefore encourage families to register early to avoid disappointment.

Year 3

Year 3 is a popular entry point for children joining Danes Hill School, often after completing local state infant schools or London Pre-Prep schools. Children entering Year 3 and above are invited to attend a Taster Day, which includes an assessment that evaluates not only their Maths and English skills but also their overall development.

Year 7

Many children choose to join Danes Hill School in Year 7 to benefit from a nurturing prep school education before moving on to senior school in Year 9. Prospective Year 7 students are invited to attend a Taster Day with an assessment, and we aim to offer places within 48 hours of this visit.

Entry into Other Year Groups

While most children join Danes Hill School in Nursery, Reception, Year 3, or Year 7, we are always happy to welcome children into other year groups where space allows. For children joining Year 1 and above, we ask for recent school reports. Although we are a non-selective school, some year groups may require an Assessment Morning. Before registering, please contact our Registrar to confirm availability in your preferred year group.

Entry During the School Year

We understand that starting at the beginning of the academic year is not always possible—particularly for families relocating locally or from overseas. We strive to be as flexible and accommodating as possible, and children may join Danes Hill during the Spring or Summer Terms, subject to space availability. Please contact our Registrar before registering to check for places in your desired year group.
