Bursaries & Scholarships

Bursaries

At Danes Hill School, we are committed to making our education accessible to as many families as possible. Our bursary programme offers means-tested financial support to pupils who would benefit from a Danes Hill education but may not otherwise be able to attend.

To make the process fair, transparent and easier to manage, we are introducing a new annual bursary application window for the 2026/27 academic year.

How the New Process Works
From 2026/27 onwards, families will be invited to apply for bursary support during a dedicated application period. This new approach ensures that all applications are considered together and that bursary funds are allocated in a consistent and timely way. The application window to apply is 15 October 2025  – End of Autumn Term (December 2025). During this time:

  • New applications for bursary support can be submitted.
  • Current bursary holders will be invited to reapply and have their support reviewed.

All applications received will be carefully reviewed by our Financial Assistance Working Group (FAWG). Decisions will be shared with families by 31 March 2026, giving plenty of time to plan for the next academic year. For more information regarding bursaries, please contact finance@daneshillschool.co.uk.

*NEW* Upper School Scholarships

We now offer external (current year 6) students the chance to apply for an Upper School Scholarship.

A range of scholarships are available in the following categories: Academic, Music, Sport, Art, Drama, and Design Technology.

Our Year 7 and 8 scholarship programme provides the perfect springboard for pupils to explore their potential, whilst giving them the time and space to remain young and enjoy their formative years. In a world that often rushes ahead, we nurture each child’s growth at their own pace, allowing them to develop academically, emotionally, and socially without the pressure of early transitions. By focusing on their individual needs and providing a supportive environment, we ensure that students are not only prepared for the future, but also able to savour these critical years before embarking on their senior school journey

Scholars will be supported in several ways to ensure they are able to flourish in their chosen discipline. An annual review with each scholar of their application and commitment will help with planning a support programme to ensure they continue to develop. Being a scholar is not a badge of honour; it is a role that comes with privilege but also responsibility and expectations.

The assessment process for each scholarship is highlighted below.

Academic

Pupils will be asked to sit an English, Maths and reasoning papers and will also take part in a group session where they will complete a problem-solving task. A reference will be sought for external applicants.

Music

Pupils will be invited to perform on one instrument; if a second discipline is offered it will also be considered. Musicality references will be sought, including current levels of performance. The Director of Music will have a short interview with each pupil and ask them about their understanding of the music being performed.

Sport

Pupils applying for a sports scholarship should be able to demonstrate excellent ability in at least two major sports. Pupils will also be asked to take part in an assessment of their fitness and skills.

Art

Pupils will be invited to take part in a day of art. Portfolios will also be considered.

Drama

Pupils will spend half a day in school, working on a mixture of assessments with the Drama department. One of these assessments will include performing a monologue, which the pupils receive in advance of the day to prepare appropriately.

DT

Pupils will be invited to attend a day workshop. Portfolios will also be considered.
