8th October 2018

U11 and U13 IAPS National Championships- U11 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

On Tuesday 2 October, the U13 and U11 Football teams travelled to the IAPS National Championships at Kings College in Taunton. The girls were eager to demonstrate their football skills after practicing on Tuesday mornings.

The U13 results:

The enthusiasm and excitement were at an all-time high coming into the first match against Dumpton. At half time the score was equal at 0-0. Unfortunately, Dumpton came back into the second half strong, taking the win 3-0.

The girls went straight into their second match with no break in-between against Millfield. Renowned for being a strong team, the girls went in and played an outstanding game. Communication was high but unfortunately Millfield scored the only goal of the match, taking the win 1-0.

The final match against Kings Hall was a nail-biter. The half time score was 1-0 to Kings Hall. The girls upped their invasion tactics, with D Walsh levelling the score with an outstanding goal. The intensity levels heightened, but unfortunately in the last few minutes, Kings Hall scored a lucky goal.

Overall, Danes Hill Senior Football team finished in 4th place. Congratulations to S Terry, M Stacey and I Davies who were rewarded player’s player of the tournament.

The U11 results:

The U11 team started fantastically in the pool stage, with a 6-0 win against Glendower Preparatory. By scoring a superb amount of goals, gave the girls great confidence for the rest of the tournament. In the second game against Warwick Preparatory, the girls scored a goal just before half term to take the lead. In the second half, just before the whistle blew the opposition also scored a goal. The result finished a 1-1 draw. The girls then stepped up in the next match against Thorngrove, winning a superb 4-0. The final game in the pool stage was played against King’s Hall ended in a 0-0 draw, despite Danes Hill having many opportunities to score. We were delighted that the girls were through to the semi final in second place position.

The semi final match was against Lambrook school who were placed first place in their pool. Lambrook started strong scoring two goals in the first half. In true Danes Hill spirit, the girls came back at Lambrook in the second half scoring two goals which equalised the game. Three minutes extra time each way was played and neither team managed to score. To get a winner through to the finals, penalties were taken and Danes Hill were victorious! Well done to the penalty takers and also to Sophie James for staying confident and calm in goal!

In the final, Danes Hill played Warwick Preparatory who they had already played in the pool stage and drawing 1-1. Danes Hill were full of confidence and their team enthusiasm was sky high. The game ended with a 2-0 win and Danes Hill girls given the title of U11 IAPS National Champions! The girls were awarded their winning medals and national football winners shield.

The girls should feel extremely proud of their efforts and achievements. Congratulations to the whole team and to K Johnson on scoring many superb goals and L Taylor for scoring the winning goal in the final!

The Danes Hill U11 football team now have a place in another national tournament- the ISFA girls football finals. This will take place at St. George’s Park National football Centre in June.
