On Friday all the children from Reception and Years 1 to 3 enjoyed their sports day in the beautiful sunshine. Parents arrived with their children and picnics and headed down to the sports fields to watch a variety of sporting events, where the four Danes Hill houses, Saxons, Danes, Vikings and Normans went head-to-head. The children took part in sack races, the ball throw, the egg and spoon race, an obstacle race and 70m, 80m or 150m sprints, finishing off with a nail-biting house relay! The children accomplished some amazing sporting achievements throughout the day, so massive well done to everyone who took part and to all the teachers for organising the day!
On Saturday, following their heats on Thursday afternoon, Year 4 to 8 had their Sports Day in the glorious sunshine. The children competed in a variety of sporting events throughout the day including long jump, high jump, shot putt, hurdles and many more. Danes Hills sports day have been an annual traditional for many years and the track records have been recorded since 1985. At Thursdays heats and at Saturdays Sports Day, many records were broken by our children. J Thompson broke the Year 6 400m record, previously set in 2014, running the 400m in 70.40s. The Year 7 boys Hurdles record set in 2013 by O Rowlands was broken by G Robertson completing the 75m in 12.91 seconds. G Butler broke the Year 8 girls hurdles record set previously by M Fairbank in 2013. The Year 6 girls high jump record set in 2006 by L Shawdon at 1.33m was broken by X Radloff on Saturday afternoon at 1.34m. J McGeough broke the boys Year 6 shot putt record whilst E Berbner broken the girls Year 6 shot putt record and C OBryan broke the boys Year 7 shot putt record. The achievements accomplished by all of the children who participated were amazing and everyone did their house proud and a big congratulations to the winning house the Saxons! A huge thank you to all the parents for coming along to support the children and to the teachers for engineering the wonderful day.
