Main School Facilities
Our Main School facilities are designed to enhance the excellent standard of teaching that we offer at Danes Hill: state-of-the-art classrooms and five science labs are just the beginning of this. Our refurbished library offers a wonderful learning atmosphere, opening out onto the Headmaster’s Terrace when the weather permits it. We have an outstanding dining room and catering facilities, offering a range of lunch options for all students. The children are also enjoying our new state-of-the-art Sports Hall with climbing wall.
Not only do we provide a high standard of facilities for indoor learning, but our outdoor facilities are designed to enrich the student experience, making the most of our 55 acre plot. Sports facilities include football, cricket, and hockey pitches, netball and tennis courts, and a magnificent 25m outdoor heated swimming pool and spectator area, covered in the colder months.
To the further delight of the children, we have a large adventure playground which includes a zip-wire! Meanwhile, our younger students in Years 2 and 3 have their own outdoor playground alongside their dedicated Wren’s Building.
Particularly special to the Danes Hill grounds is our Paddock, just a short walk from the Main School. With its lovely pond it is the perfect location for our Year 8 summer camping trip, and a wonderful learning environment for Bevendean’s weekly forest school visit.
Danes Hill School believes that a love of reading is key to a good education. Reading for pleasure is key to unlocking a child's imagination and learning potential, and Danes Hill is proud to call itself a 'whole reading school'. Each child has a weekly library session, aimed to encourage reading for pleasure and support independent learning and study skills. Activities include everything from storytimes for the younger years to author visits and creative writing workshops for older pupils.
The library aims to support the development of each child's reading skills, to enable them to discover the joy of reading, and to use non-fiction texts effectively, putting the children in greater control of their own learning and literacy.
