U13 Surrey Cup Competition

12th September 2018

On Friday 9 February the first team travelled to Reigate Grammar School to take part in the U13 Surrey Cup Competition. The girls were in high spirits and excited for a morning of hockey. The girls wanted to thank the FODH for the sub coats as they kept them warm and dry throughout the morning.

In the pool stages the girls showed off their skills and dominance by winning against City of London Freemans School 4-0 and JAGS 4-1. The girls then faced the two toughest opponents in our group; Surbiton High School and St John’s. The girls scored three excellent goals after conceding a goal early on in the game. With two minutes to go Surbiton scored two well worked goal to make the final result 3-3. To progress through to the next stage the girls had to win against St John’s. This was a physical and competitive match and it was a game of two halves. St John’s scored two goals early in the first half which put the pressure on Danes Hill. After an inspirational speech from Captain Zoe Lawrence the girls were fired up for the second half. They played superbly but were unfortunate not to score.

Only the top two teams in the pool progressed to the semi-finals and we finished 3rd in the pool, which was something we were not expecting on the day. The girls finised 5th overall having a convincing win over Alleyns.

The girls have had a superb hockey season and they should be proud of their achievements. I would like to wish the Year 8 girls every success in their new schools and I am looking forward to building on this year’s success with the Year 7’s!
