Netball Team inspired by Australian Netball champion

2nd February 2022

Last week our children were thrilled to attend a Netball Masterclass at Charterhouse School with London Pulse Netball’s champion player, Sacha McDonald. They travelled to Godalming for a motivating session of netball training to enhance their skills and inspire a passion for professional sport.

The Year 5 children were excited to learn and play with children from other local schools at Charterhouse, Godalming. The children were split into their teams. The U10A children played in a tournament against the other schools, whilst the remaining teams worked with Sacha McDonald, a professional Australian netball player. The masterclass focused on their movement around the court and encouraged the children to utilise the space to their advantage. McDonald gave the children tips to ensure their body was in the correct position for effective passing and receiving the ball. The children were all given individual feedback in order to develop their technique. The children’s confidence grew throughout the session as they become more courageous with their drive to get the ball.

Sacha McDonald is an Australian goal attack and wing attack from an elite sporting family, with siblings playing in the Australian Football League. Previously she played for the Melbourne Vixens Squad in the Suncorp Super Netball League. During the 2019 National Championships Sacha was the team’s captain and was part of the leadership group for the premiership-winning Victorian Fury in the Deakin University Australian Netball League. McDonald has recently swapped the Melbourne Vixens training environment for the Vitality Netball Super league and Pulse.

We strive to develop the children’s learning through dynamic workshops with professionals from around the world. Sacha McDonald’s experience as team captain gave the children an insight into the values and motivation required when leading a team.

Rob Andrews, Acting Head said:

“In giving our children inspiring opportunities, we allow them to thrive, achieving success on the sports field, in the examination hall, or wherever their talents lie. Masterclasses in sport open the door to a child’s physical potential and fortifies the values of teamwork, camaraderie and determination.”
