Main Points of Admission
We pride ourselves in being a non-selective school and our admissions process is designed to identify children who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education. An offer of a place will be made if we feel Danes Hill is the right school for your child.
Entry at: Mini Transition, Transition, Reception and Year 3
Depending on age, children can join Bevendean, our Pre-Prep school, or the Danes Hill Main School in any of the following:
Mini Transition (at the start of term in which they have had their 3rd birthday)
Transition (aged 3+)
Reception (aged 4+)
Year 3 (aged 7+)
Places can sometimes be available in the intervening year groups.
Children joining Year 3 and above are invited to attend a Taster Morning during a school day. During this morning, the children will sit assessments in English and Maths, join a class for the remainder of the morning and stay for lunch. We aim to make the day as enjoyable as possible. No preparation is needed for the assessments – the children are encouraged to answer the questions to the best of their ability!
A reference will be requested from their current school and you will be contacted with the School’s decision within 5 working days.
Entry at: 11+ (Year 7)
Children registered for entry into Year 7 will be invited to attend a Taster Day. During their visit, they will sit assessments in English and Maths and participate in other class activities with their peer group.
We will require a copy of your child’s most recent school report and a reference will be requested from their current school. The assessment papers will be marked promptly and you will hear the School’s decision within 5 working days.
Entry in other year groups
We have occasional spaces that become available at different stages of the Danes Hill journey. In this case, children who are already registered with us are invited in for a Taster Morning/Day. They will sit assessments in English and Maths and join their current year group for class activities.
We will require a copy of your child’s most recent school report and a reference will be requested from their current school. The assessment papers will be marked promptly and you will hear the School’s decision, within 5 working days.
International pupils benefit from an exceptional education taught by our subject specialist teachers who are experienced in delivering English as an Additional Language (EAL). For children unable to attend an assessment day, reports and references will be requested from their current school and they will sit an English and maths assessment at the earliest possible date.
Entry during the school year
We understand that it is not always possible to start at the beginning of the academic year and children often join Danes Hill in the Spring or Summer Terms. We will aim to be as flexible as possible.
