On Friday 28 February, the U13 netball team travelled to Millfield School to compete in the Regional IAPS Netball Championships. There were 16 schools taking part in this competition with the top 3 schools having the chance to go through to the National Tournament.
In the pool stages, the team had three extremely successful matches. The girls played superbly and demonstrated their outstanding strengths in every positions.
The results were as follows:
14-4 win against Mount Kelly
16-2 win against Downs School
9-3 win against Dean Close
This meant that they were top in their pool and through to the cup competition quarter-finals. The girls played West Hill and were winning from very early on in the game. The defending players marked tightly and the attacking players passed the ball around the circle, to make sure every goal counted. On the final whistle the girls won 16-5 and were delighted to get through to the semi-finals.
The semi-final was against Monkton School. This was an extremely important game as the girls knew that if they won they could have a place in the Nationals. The team played their best netball seen to date! Every goal gave them more confidence to increase their score. The final score ended in a superb 16-3 win and they were delighted to receive a place in the Nationals and proceed to the cup final.
The final game was against Taunton School. In the first half, the girls dug deep and goals were scored from both teams. At half time there was only 2 goals difference between both teams. In the second half, the girls began to get tired and missed a number of vital goals to get them in the lead. The girls ended up losing the game 8-15 but were extremely proud to receive the IAPS Regional Cup Competition silver medals. The team is looking forward to the National Championships on Saturday 21 March at Bryanston School.
