Recreating the Great Fire of London

Last week, children in Year 2 played hosts to some very special guests in the shape of firefighters of White Watch from Leatherhead Fire Station.

The visitors delivered a very serious message about the importance of fire safety, both at school and in the home, and the children certainly took their words to heart. The mood lightened somewhat as the students were invited to look around a fire engine and sit inside the cab.

After returning to the classroom, the children undertook a very unique exercise, creating a replica model of the City of London from boxes and then setting it ablaze to recreate the Great Fire.

All in all this was a very memorable afternoon but one with a very serious message, neither of which the children will forget in a hurry.
