Pre-1980 Dinner 2005
Pre-1980 Dinner 2005
16th October, 2007
It was only fitting that the Society’s first major event should be a reunion dinner for what for the purposes of this evening only were dubbed ‘Senior Old Ravens’, those who left the school prior to 1980.
From the very first arrivals it was clear that this evening would have a very special atmosphere and such proved the case. Whilst some of those attending still had regular contact with the school, not least as parents of current pupils, there were others for whom this was the first time in many years that they had set foot inside the Old School.
In between courses of a typically splendid piece of Danes Hill catering, the company was regaled by speeches from the trio of headmasters who were hosting the evening. Current headmaster Robin Parfitt extended a warm welcome to all those attending and reaffirmed the importance of past pupils to the current school. Graham Hill’s paean to the Danes Hill of yesteryear shimmered and shone in a faultless – and noteless – performance, only to be matched by Robert Hadman’s highly entertaining disquisition on the mores and personalities of his day, the script of which has fortunately been preserved for posterity, and is now lodged in the Old Raven archives.
At the close of the evening Johnny Robinson expressed his thanks on behalf of the Old Ravens in which he spoke of the enduring effect Danes Hill has on those who attend it. An evening of memories, and a memorable evening!
