Young Great Britons
Young Great Britons
15th October, 2007
Four of our Year 7 pupils were featured in a Daily Telegraph article this week when they attended the Morgan Stanley ‘Great Britons’ debate at Westminster to hear the debate entitled ‘Can Britishness be Taught?’. The debating panel comprised such eminent figures as Simon Robey (Head of Morgan Stanley UK), Will Lewis (Editor in Chief, Telegraph Media Group), Dr David Starkey (Historian), and Trevor Phillips (Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission).
Our pupils were the only children attending. Pupils Caela Huckle and Dominic Lowcock are shown with Jim Knight MP, Minister of State for Schools and Learners, and Michael Wills MP, Minister of State for Constitutional Renewal. Georgia Pask and Thomas Gant were also present and Thomas actually concluded ‘question time’ with a very astute question directed at Mr Knight, who replied along with David Willets, the Shadow Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
Various delegates, including head teachers, MPs and chief examiners approached Miss Harris afterwards to compliment Danes Hill on the clarity of the pupils’ presentations, as well as their depth of understanding and confidence.
