Science Club Investigates...
6th February, 2008
These days nothing goes to waste at Danes Hill! Paper is recycled, story books are sent to Africa, and logs are given away for fire wood. So when some trees were cut down recently to make way for the new building project at the Main School, Middle School Science Club jumped at the chance to investigate 'tree rings'. Armed with magnifying glasses and rulers the children have been observing tree ring patterns in a Scots pine tree trunk and learning how variations in ring thickness relate to changes in rainfall. The children have also carefully counted the rings to find the age of the tree. The answer? 104 years old.
