Geology Rocks!
Geology Rocks!
1st May, 2008
Pupils have been celebrating International Year of Planet Earth by learning about the natural wonders of the World around them.
Middle School Science Club have been making Plaster of Paris fossils and Geological Time clocks with the help of resident geologist Dr Kelland.
Meanwhile on Wednesday 30 April Year 8 enjoyed a highly entertaining lecture from eminent geologist Professor Richard Selley, whose account of field expeditions in the Sahara and the Arctic were not unlike those of Indiana Jones adventures. Many were amazed by the origin of his slide pointer -a wind-screen wiper from the crashed WWII bomber ‘The Lady be Good’ found in the Sahara on a 1958 expedition for BP!
Following the talk pupils had the opportunity to handle geological field equipment and souvenirs from Professor Selley’s geological expeditions, including a snake bite kit, and a dagger used by Touareg Bedouin as a tooth pick.
