Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship
Pastoral care issues are key component of PSHE study, and the schools flourishing programme is the responsibility of Miss Nicola Harris, Head of PSHE and Citizenship.

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship enable children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Pupils develop inter-personal skills, social skills and communication skills, all of which are vital in preparing them for everyday life in the future.

The aim of PSHE and Citizenship study is to enable children to:

  • understand what makes for good relationships with others
  • understand their rights and responsibilities
  • have respect for others
  • respect the differences between themselves and others
  • develop self-confidence and self-esteem and make informed choices
  • regarding personal and social issues
  • know and understand what constitutes a healthy, safer lifestyle
  • be independent and active members of the school community
  • develop good relationships with other members of the school and the wider community
  • be aware of safety issues
  • learn to play an active role as citizens
  • research, discuss and debate topical issues
  • become involved in, and understand the role of, voluntary organizations
  • understand personal finances and some aspects of the national economy
  • understand the role of the law, together with central and local government (Years 6, 7 and 8)
